Wei Lin was born in Shanghai, China, in October 1976.  From September 1988 to June 1994, he studied in the No. 2 Secondary School affiliated to East China Normal University, China.  He received the B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in applied mathematics from Fudan University, Shanghai, China, in July 1998 and January 2003, respectively, with specialization in dynamical systems, bifurcation and chaos theory, and chaos control and synchronization.

In March 2003, Dr. Lin, as a Lecturer, joined the School of Mathematical Sciences, Fudan University, China, where, in April 2005 and December 2009, he was, respectively, promoted to the positions of Associate Professor and Full Professor of applied mathematics.  Also, in December 2005 and December 2010, he, respectively, obtained the qualifications of supervisors for the M.Sc. and the Ph.D. students.

From April 2004 to May 2005, Dr. Lin served as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, York University, Canada.  From January 2008 to June 2017, he served as the Vice Dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences, Fudan University, China, and from March 2008 to January 2017, he served as the Deputy Dean of the Centre for Computational Systems Biology, Fudan University, China.  Currently (from March 2016), Dr. Lin is serving as the Deputy Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology for Brain-Inspired Intelligence (ISTBI), Fudan University, China and (from January 2017) as the Director of the Centre for Computational Systems Biology of ISTBI. From June 2020, he is serving as the Dean of the Research Institute of Intelligent Complex Systems (RIICS), Fudan University, China. From July 2019, he is serving as the Deputy Director of the MOE Frontiers Center for Brain Science (Fudan University) and as the Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Computational Neuroscience and Brain-inspired Intelligence (Fudan University), Ministry of Education, China.  From July 2007 and June 2013, he has held the Staff Scientist position at the CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Biology, Shanghai, China.  He is now the Deputy Chair and General Secretary of the Shanghai Society of Nonlinear Sciences.  He is the board member of the Chinese Society of Computational Systems Biology and the member of the International Physics and Control Society.  He serves as the Associate Editor for several international journals, including the International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos.  He is the member of the editorial advisory committee of CHOAS: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science. From 2016, Dr. Lin becomes the Senior Member of IEEE.

Dr. Lin’s current research interests include: nonlinear dynamical systems, bifurcation and chaos theory, hybrid systems, stochastic differential and difference equations, functional differential equations, chaos control and synchronization, complex networks, time series analysis, causality analysis, parameters estimation (data assimilations), model reconstruction, computational systems biology, and mathematics problems in social sciences and data sciences.

Dr. Lin was awarded the Shanghai Science and Technology Rising Star and Tracked Rising Star from the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, China, respectively, in 2007 and in 2011.  He received the Second Prize of the Fok-Ying-Tung Education Foundation Award for Young Scientists in Universities from the Ministry of Education of China in 2010, and he was selected as the Shuguang Scholar supported by the Shanghai Education Foundation in 2010.  He was selected as an Excellent Young Scholar supported by NSFC in 2013.  He was selected as a PI for a key project supported by the National Key R&D Program of China in 2018.  He was selected as an Outstanding Young Scholar supported by NSFC in 2019.  From 2015 to 2017, he was selected as a Highly Cited Chinese Researcher in General Engineering according to Elsevier.
