Dr. Shicheng Zhang is a Full Professor and a Vice Chair at the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Fudan University, Shanghai, China. Director of Shanghai Technical Service Platform for Pollution Control and Resource Utilization of Organic Wastes (TSP OW). He received his Ph.D. from Northeastern University, China in 2001. After that, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in Peking University and Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. In 2005 he joined the faculty of environmental engineering at Fudan University. From 2007 to 2008, Dr. Zhang worked at Iowa State University as a postdoctoral research fellow. After 2011, he served as vice chair for the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at Fudan University. He has visited and collaborated with many Universities in USA, Canada, UK, Denmark, Japan, Austrilia, and so on.
His research group is focusing on the biofuel, biochemical and bio-based materials production from biomass wastes by chemical, biological and biochemical methods, especially hydrothermal conversion of biomass waste to high value-added products. Till now, he has been involved in more than 30 research projects as PI or Co-PI. He has published more than 170 journal papers, 33 patents, and has more than 4100 ISI citations with H index 35. He has received several awards for his outstanding scholarly achievements. In 2011, he got the 2nd Prize of Shanghai Natural Science Award. Superior Paper Award of American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers in 2016；Award for Most Cited Energy Article from China by Elsevier Publisher in 2017. Dr. Zhang has been an active member of numerous national and international commissions and committees, and regularly serves as external judge for national and international funding institutions. Chair of the International Workshop on Green Biorefineries for Biomass Waste and the Environment 2018 (GBBWE2018). Associate Editor of Environmental Engineering Research, Editoral Board Member of Processes, Environmental Sanitation Engineering, Guest Editor of Bioresource Technology (2017) and Green Chemistry (2019). He currently serves as core group member of the Sustainable Waste Management Program for the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU).
