Welcome to Professor Shicheng Zhang’s Lab! Biomass Wastes Recovery and Environment (BWR&E)!

Dr. Shicheng Zhang is a Full Professor at the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Fudan University, Shanghai, China. Director of Shanghai Technical Service Platform for Pollution Control and Resource Utilization of Organic Wastes (TSP OW). He received his Ph.D. from Northeastern University, China in 2001. After that, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in Peking University and Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. In 2005 he joined the faculty of environmental engineering at Fudan University. From 2007 to 2008, Dr. Zhang worked at Iowa State University as a postdoctoral research fellow. From 2011 to 2020, he served as vice chair for the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at Fudan University. He has visited and collaborated with many Universities in USA, Canada, UK, Denmark, Japan, Austrilia, and so on.

His research group is focusing on the biofuel, biochemical and bio-based materials production from biomass wastes by chemical, biological and biochemical methods, especially hydrothermal conversion of biomass waste to high value-added products. Till now, he has been involved in more than 30 research projects as PI or Co-PI. He has published more than 180 journal papers, 35 patents, and has more than 4900 ISI citations with H index 39. He has received several awards for his outstanding scholarly achievements. He has got the 2nd Prize of Natural Science for Scientific Research in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education (2020),  the 2nd Prize of Shanghai Natural Science Award (2011) and the First Prize of Shanghai Teaching Achievement (2017). Superior Paper Award of American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers in 2016;Award for Most Cited Energy Article from China by Elsevier Publisher in 2017. Dr. Zhang has been an active member of numerous national and international commissions and committees, and regularly serves as external judge for national and international funding institutions. Chair of the International Workshop on Green Biorefineries for Biomass Waste and the Environment 2018 (GBBWE2018). Associate Editor of Environmental Engineering Research, Editoral Board Member of Processes, Environmental Sanitation Engineering, Guest Editor of Bioresource Technology (2017) and Green Chemistry (2019).  He currently serves as core group member of the Sustainable Waste Management Program for the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU).
